3 month update!

May 27, 2011 at 6:12 pm (Uncategorized)

Hi everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates. We are going through alot of changes over here!
For one, we are moving… again! This will be the third move for Squirt in 8 months. He will be moving next week!
Good news for Squirt though, he will be getting 9 friends… and even more expected in a few weeks!
The lady who owns the new place has 5 dogs… 4 are Bernese mountain dogs, one is a shiba inu. The other tenant on her side has a Maltese. Then, the lady below us owns 3 flat coat retrievers too!
Better yet, one of the Bernese mountain dogs is EXPECTING PUPPIES right after we move in! What a lucky Puggle Squirt will be, with so many friends. He will be forced to be social!

Bad news unfortunately, is that daddy won’t be living with us anymore. We are unsure as to how Squirt will take this intense change, but hopefully it will all be for the better. Daddy has promised to come visit all the time, and mommy is willing to take Squirt to see Daddy lots.

This summer, Squirt and myself hope to go camping at least once. We are planning on going up by grandma’s house. If Squirt doesn’t like camping, we can go sleep at grandma’s for the night as a backup plan.

We have been lazy when it comes to the training for Squirt so he can go into seniors lodges… but hopefully once we get settled and Mommy finds another job, we will be able to work on it alot.

Update!

February 12, 2011 at 7:22 pm (Uncategorized)

Hey everyone! Sorry it’s been almost a year since we have updated.  Last September we decided to make the big jump and move to the city for a multitude of reasons. I no longer meshed with the other roommate and tension was building up. Another reason was because he brought another dog home. A big dog.

I’m not going to comment on anything further than that.

In the last year, Squirt has enjoyed becoming a city puggle. Althought he hates public transit ( who can blame him?) he brings smiles to almost everyone on the bus when he gets on.

For a few months, we actively visited our friends downtown so that Squirt could get used to transit.

Squirt also became a big brother to a lot of new (sort of!) babies.

We ended up re homing our gecko, but got alot of stuff in return.

In the last 6 months, we have taken in:

2 Blue Tounge Skinks- 1 female (Mimic) and 1 male (Tommy Two-Toes)

This is Mimic, our female.

Tommy, our male

1 Leopard Gecko- AppleJack

AppleJack! She's such a happy camper.

and 1 Adult Ball Python- Maximus

Here is a picture OF a ball python, although we havent brought Maxi home yet.

A Ball Python

So we have been very busy!

Squirt does not like the blue tounge skinks, they scare him! He runs around the house all crazy when they come out. He doesn’t mind the leopard gecko, she has even explored the top of his head!

We have no clue what he will think of the snake when it comes home!

Here’s a quick photo of Squirt with my favorite owl hat on!

Squirt!

goodbye…

April 15, 2010 at 3:13 am (Uncategorized)

Today, something horrible happened.

A dog was unjustly euthanised, very unjustly. I cannot go into details about it really, but I can guarantee there was another option other than to euthanize that dog.

That dog was Rue.

Goodbye Rue.

My fiancee and I have made the decision that if our roomate comes home with another dog, we will move out on the spot. We cannot take this heartbreak anymore.

Oh La Rue La Rue….

April 12, 2010 at 4:47 am (Uncategorized)

The Definition of Rue:

1. to feel sorrow over; repent of; regret bitterly: to rue the loss of opportunities.

2. to wish that (something) had never been done, taken place, etc.: I rue the day he was born.

Today Squirt got a new friend. Our roomate brought home a new dog, and her name is Rue.

Rue is a 2 year olf Beagle, possibly mix, who has had alot happen in her short life.

To Rue is to feel sorry for something, and I seriously feel sorry for this little girl. She had been hit by a car and had her back legs damaged. She can walk, but she cannot support herself on those two legs alone and even though she has recovered, she probably never will.

We also think she may have been abused at a past home unfotunately. At the moment, she hates cats, had food agression and isn’t too fond of Squirt >.<

Here are some pictures, and some of Squirt too, he fell asleep on me earlier… ^.^

Squirt’s Jason

April 11, 2010 at 5:18 pm (Uncategorized)

Okay, this will be a long update!

After a long month, Squirt is fine. He never showed any symptoms of parvo (thank goodness!). However, the little bugger destroyed :

1 pillow case, mom’s pillowcase of course

1 fluffy pillow, mom’s of course!

1 stuffed Go-Dog piggy

1 Tuffy Sharkie… so much for being tough

1 set of headphones/microphone set, not mine, but a friend of ours.

He got so badly destructive and I really felt bad for him 😦

We have a friend who comes and stays with us about every 3 ish months because he is on leave from the military. He has only met Squirt once before, and he scared the crap out of Squirt! He would chase him around the house and say funny things to him, and Squirt would just hide.

This time, it’s completely opposite! Every morning, Squirt waskes me up so he can go wake “his” Jason up. So he toddles over and puts his front paws on the couch. Usually this sort of wakes Jason up. The other day he just hopped on up there and licked Jason’s back until he woke up to play with him.

Today, the lil bugger woke me up early, He tried to wake Jason up, failed and then fell asleep with him. How cute is this?

All Huddled Up

Out Like A Light

Right now they are both sleeping, go figure!

Here is a photo we have taken as of lately. We don’t use the camera very often as it’s not ours 😛

He has a matching Harness and collar set now from Terrier Trousers.

Here is their etsy link: http://www.etsy.com/shop/TerrierTrousers

Next week, look forward to seeing Squirt’s wardrobe!

Qucik Update

March 25, 2010 at 5:36 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , )

Hey everyone, I will give a bigger update in a few days but we are just on high alert over at our house right now. You see, Squirt is in what the vet calls, his ” danger days”. This is how it goes. In the three days L was sick, squirt was introduced to the virus. Although he is vaccinated, it may still hit him, just not as hard. It takes 2 weeks for the virus to fester in his body and then ater those 2 weeks, the three days after those 2 weeks are the ” danger days”. These are the days that, if he does have any strength of parvo he cannot fight, it will present itself now. We are currently on day 2 with no symptoms whatsoever. Day 1 was a breeze. Just in case, we are having someone babysit him while we have to be out and leaving a credit card number, vet’s number etc in case he gets really bad.
Anyhowl, thank you everyone for your condolences on the loss of L. Her owner really appreciated it.

Squirt has been going nuts in the house! We haven’t taken him on walks or anything in fear or possibly spreading it to other dogs, so he took it out on mommy’s pillows.
He ripped the pillow case open and eventually go through to the good stuff. We did buy him a cheap rope to occupy his time, and if needed, will throw it away.
The vet said to watch for Squirt if he starts being lethargic , how do you tell with a lazy sleep-all-day puggle? 😛
We are trying to keep the thoughts positive over here and I will update in the next few days hat is going on 🙂
Wags and kisses,

The Rainbow Bridge

March 11, 2010 at 4:00 am (Uncategorized)

I posted about L being sick the last few days. I was positive it was Parvo.

L was taken to the vet today, and diagnosed with parvo. They said it had been in her system her whole puppy life.

R.I.P ” L”

So for the last hour I have been disinfecting everything I can with bleach. The floor, the cupboards, the bathtub, anything and everything. We ahve gotten rid of most of the toys that she played with and can’t be disinfected.

We are unsure of getting rid of sharkie yet and a few of the rings and stuff Squirt sometimes brought out, but if worse comes to worse, we will just get rid of them as we would rather have a healthy dog than one thay may be able to get sick.

We are going to bleach down the yard tomorrow and figure out how to bleach the carpet or steam clean it really good.

Squirt is going to go to the vet tomorrow for a titre to see his parvo immunity and a booster shot most likely.

Here is a frequently read poem after a pet dies:

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.

There is always food and water, and warm Spring weather. Those old and frail animals are young again. Those who have been maimed are made whole again.

They play all day with each other. But there is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up. The nose twitches, the ears are up, the eyes are staring, and this one suddenly runs from the group.

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

Poor Squirt, losing his best friend, he is laying around wondering where she is.

Squirt’s Update

March 9, 2010 at 11:03 pm (Uncategorized)

Nothing much new has happened in the last while since we posted Squirt’s Birthday post.

L is sick right now, so everyone is watching her pretty much, she hasn’t been able to hold anything down today or yesterday and is looking pretty sickly. She also hasn’t been eating. If it gets worse, such as diarrhea, hopefully her owner will take her to the vet, as I’m sure if that happens it is parvo.

She is late on her shots and hasn’t been dewormed since god knows when, but you can’t tell people how to own their dogs, can you?

To all the readers, when should puppies get their shots? I’ve been reading every 3-4 weeks after you get them home until they are 20 ish weeks old. If that is so, L hasn’t had any shots sinc her inital ones and she is now 16 weeks old we think, maybe 17.

I really hope she doesn’t have anything bad like parvo, or anything communicable. Squirt has his shots but I have been told if it’s parvo, it is transmittable to other dogs, kinda like the human flu, but just not as bad of a case.

In any case, next time we go to the vet I am thinking of getting a titre done to see his immunity to parvovirus, as long as it isnt rediculously expensive.

As well, when his shots are done we are going to get him vaccinated for Bordatella, as we are considering getting a puppy after I get out of school or maybe a while down the road.

Some of the breeds we are considering are Pembroke and Cardigan Corgis as well as Basenjis and Finnish Spitz. We are aiming to have a medium sized dog, or maybe we are just going to cave and get another puggle!

So far we have just been reading information and trying to socialize Squirt a bit more. As well we are going to try and get Therapy dogs allowed in our local Seniors Residence. If so, I am going to take my stubborn Squirt to get Therapy Dog training! Hopefully he will pass!

That’s all for now,

Wags,

Squirt and Mom

Happy Belated Birthday Party ^.^

February 22, 2010 at 10:58 pm (Uncategorized)

Okay here’s the scoop. ** Our roomate let us borrow his camera!!!! ^.^**

Originally I had planned a big thing for Squirt’s big day. I had thought about ordering a birthday pack for dogs from etsy.com, a birthday hat and all of that jazz. Then, I found out Squirt’s dad wasn’t going be able to attend, as he was supposed to be going away that weekend. Plans ruined.

So I decided to do something small with the dogs. We didn’t go anywhere because L is just about due for her next shots, and Parvo is making its rounds at the local dog parks 😦 As well I would rather just avoid any chance whatsoever of Squirt getting L sick or vice versa.

So we had a small thing. We have been invited to come meet a few other puggles in the city, but have not heard back from either of their parents yet, so we just had a two-dog party.

Squirt still has his bit of food agression, especially towards L so they didn’t get cake at the same time. L was stuck in the kitchen. It is so funny! He growls while eating even if she is in another room!

Anyhowl, we got home from shopping and I started making the cake.

We got the recipe from www.party-photo-favors.com.

Peanut Butter Carrot Cake

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 egg

Mix flour and baking soda. Add remaining ingredients. Pour into greased 8″ round cake pan and bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Let cool. Puree cottage cheese in blender for icing. Decorate with more peanut butter and carrots. When the toothpick somes out clean, it’s done.

**Note- you can also put the cake into little tart or mini pie tins like I did. Bake them for the same amount of time. I didnt put the cottage cheese icing on as Squirt hates cottage cheese and it makes his bum smelly at night 😛

Our cake mix in the tins, Ready to go into the oven!

Squirt begged and begged for some, so we let him lick the spoon.

Squirt begging mom for some batter

Waiting to lick the spoon!

While we waited for the cakes to bake, Dad cut some watermelon. I knew Preston loved watermelon, so we decided to see if Squirt would approve of it. Guess he did!

Watermelon!

Crunchy Watermelon... Yum!

We waited and waited and then.. Cake was done!

Cake is done!

So we seperated the dogs and put Squirt’s cake on a plate for him. Look at him beg and want it, but he left it alone until we said he could have it!

PLEASE MOM

Eating the crumbs... must be good cake!

And then L ate hers…

L begging for cake

Yum!

We got Squirt a new Tuffy Toy, A shark! It has lots of appendages for Squirt to rip off, but they are sewn seperate from the body so they don’t open a hole in the body…. Squirt stood on his back legs as high as he could for a good 5 seconds to show Dad he deserved it!

Now, a picture of L. She is no longer the whitey puppy we picked up about 5 weeks ago! She is changing color and getting taller. She is now 14 weeks old!

Look how big she is!

And now, the cutest picture of the both of them. Usually they are scrapping or playing tag in the house…. they finally tired each other out… and Squirt must love her. See?

Awe ❤ Big brother protecting her

Finally, Squirt is all played out from his big day!

A tired puggle

Licks and kisses,

A month of updates!

February 21, 2010 at 6:23 pm (Everyday Life, Mom & Dad, Uncategorized)

Hey everyone. Sorry we haven`t been blogging lately. There are a afew factors to that. Our camera was stolen along with a bunch of Squirt`s pictures 😦 We are in the works of buying a new one in the next few days, so that is why our post is pictureless. Secondly, wow! Taking care of a puppy is alot of work! phew! Although it is not our puppy we take care of it during the day and wow is she just a bundle of energy. When in battle, Squirt can now scoot under her belly to escape…. she is getting way taller!

We are also possibly in the works of moving. It is being heavily discussed at the moment for various reasons, but there has been no decision made as all of the places we seem to be finding are rediculously expensive… we might as well have a mortgage payment!

In other news, we sadly had to get rid of Squirt`s favorite thing to watch, the fish tank. It was causing mold issues in our room. While the humidity was great for his breathing system… unfortunately it had to go. However, we are still keeping out room a bit humid with one little secret!

A gecko!

About a week ago,we decided to take the reptile plunge. Squirt now has a little sister named iiya ( No tail in japanese). He likes to drag her escaped crickets and play with them on the carpet…. O.O If you knew me (Squirts mom) You would know I am extremely bug sensitive. I hate hate hate bugs of any kind…

Currently there is one roaming my bedroom, and I can`t seem to find my man in a can. Squirt just follows it but for some reason refuses to kill it like he has killed other bugs in the past… Have no clue why.

Now to the big news!

SQUIRT TURNED ONE YESTERDAY!!!

(Okay, well we don`t know for sure, so we made him a birthday in febuary)

He is now a big boy, ready for big responsibilities, and man has he changed since we got him! Although walks are not frequent, it`s still super cold up here. I figure in the beginning of march we will be able to take him out regularly again. It was also Squirt`s daddy`s birthday yesterday, but daddy wasn`t here. Squirt and L and Mommy are all alone in thew house for a few more hours…. Oh well! Have to go! L is throwing up in the kitchen….

Wags and Kisses, Squirt and Mom

P.s we are having a birthday party when we can get a camera because we definitely want pictures!
